It’s that time again. First, I’d like to thank you all for being so hospitable to WT (Worker Twin) and I’d especially like to thank you for not asking her any embarrassing questions about yours truly. That was your golden opportunity…but thanks for not capitalizing on it.
Anyhoo, on to the matters at hand. How would I have handled last week's situation ?
Frankly, my friend would have been on the receiving end of an incredulous look and would have been told what s/he had said/done wasn’t funny. I’d then try and change the subject.
For this week:
You work with someone that repeatedly embellishes stories. Initially, you think it’s harmless enough. But as it continues you realize she’s (or he) is positioning herself (or himself) to look good to the boss and go for the promotion you wanted. What would you do ?

Oh, wow. That's a hard one. Tell the boss your coworker is a liar and risk looking like a jerk, or let the liar continue to embellish and hope that the boss is smart enough to catch on? I'm not sure what I'd do. It would really depend on what my gut was telling me I think.
I wouldn't do anything... If the boss is so stupid not to see him / her for the fool he (or she) is, then they deserve each other.
I would stick to the high road and concentrate on my good qualities and be truely deserving of the promotion.
That really is a tough one! Probably I would do nothing and hope that in the end the embellishing would catch up with co-worker. In the meantime I would probably complain to no end about this person behind their back to my friends outside the office, and I will admit that I would probably make sure that my boss knew about my accomplishments as well.
I think I'm with Maureen. Perhaps I'd also occasionally call the co-worker on her bullshit (very politely..."oh really? Is that how you recall it? Because I thought that all of us contributed equally to that. What made you think that you took sole responsibility for that project?" Assuming the person had any sense or conscience, she might realize that she needs to stop, because if coworkers are seeing through her then chances are her boss will too. And if her boss doesn't see through her? Maureen's right, they deserve each other.
Making their embellishments known walks a fine line of making you look like a "tattletale". GOOD GRIEF...can you tell I work with kids?
I would probably try to hold my tongue and wait for kharma to bite this person in the ass. If that didn't work....I would have to take more drastic measures!
Sorta been there. I'd probably not say anything and hope karma bites this person in the ass eventually, too. But, I also would be like Alex elliot.....I'd be yapping to anyone that would listen outside of work b/c I'd have to vent and I'd also be making sure my accomplishments were known at work as well. ;)
I would use my mega bitch skilz. I could totally handle it and bust her out without making myself look desperate. HOW would totally depend on the circumstances, but yes, I'd try to make it obvious.
Not difficult, but tricky. If they are quite the embellisher to their tales, they should eventually be caught anyway.
